Must Know – Practical Tips and Tricks To Read People’s Body Language

$

It is tricky to read other’s body language but if read correctly, which comes with practice, then it certainly gives a boost to making right day to day decisions concerning you. Let’s take an example of the trickiness involved. If someone is crossing his arms, you may assume that he’s closed off, when in fact he is just feeling cold.

Nonetheless, despite the risks involved, when you’re working hard and doing all you can to achieve your goals, anything that can give you an edge is powerful and bound to streamline your path to success.

More than a million people were tested and it was found that the upper echelons of top performers are filled with people who are high in emotional intelligence (90 percent of top performers, to be exact). These people know the power that unspoken signals have in communication, and they monitor body language accordingly.

Here are few quick tricks to read people’s body language correctly so as to gauge what goes on through their minds while they interact

Smile – Real smiles crinkle the eyes

Person’s smile is one of the biggest mirror that reflects what is going on in your mind. If you try to fake a smile, your mouth can lie but your eyes can’t. A real smile reaches the eyes, crinkling the skin to create crow’s feet around them. Sometimes people fake smile to hide what they are thinking but you can judge if the smile is genuine or not. If the smile isn’t genuine, they are hiding something.

Eyes – Eyes that lie

Most of us probably grew up hearing, “Look in my eyes when you talk to me!” Our parents were operating under the assumption that it’s tough to hold someone’s gaze when you’re lying to them, and they were right to an extent. But that’s such common knowledge that people will often deliberately hold eye contact in an attempt to cover up the fact that they’re lying. The problem is that most of them overcompensate and hold eye contact to the point that it feels uncomfortable. On average, Americans hold eye contact for seven to ten seconds, longer when we’re listening than when we’re talking. If you’re talking with someone whose stare is making you squirm -especially if they’re very still and unblinking. Something is up and they might be lying you.

Eyebrows – Raised eyebrows signalling discomfort

There are three main emotions that make your eyebrows go up: surprise, worry, and fear. Try raising your eyebrows when you’re having a relaxed casual conversation with a friend. It’s hard to do, isn’t it? If somebody who is talking to you raises their eyebrows and the topic isn’t one that would logically cause surprise, worry, or fear, there is something else going on.

Posture – Posture tells the story

Posture of a person can tell a lot of things about the person. Erect posture, gestures made with the palms facing down, and open and expansive gestures have large effect on what’s going in person’s mind. Standing up straight with your shoulders back is a power position. Slouching, on the other hand, projects less power. Try to maintain a good posture as it commands respect and promotes engagement.

Gritted jaw – Reflects stress

A gritted jaw, a tightened neck, or a furrowed brow are all signs of stress. Regardless of what the person is saying, these are signs of considerable discomfort. The conversation might be delving into something they’re anxious about, or their mind might be elsewhere and they’re focusing on the thing that’s stressing them out. The key is to watch for that mismatch between what the person says and what their tense body language is telling you.

Crossed arms & legs – Signals resistance to your ideas

Crossed arms and legs are physical barriers that suggest the other person is not open to what you’re saying. Even if they’re smiling and engaged in a pleasant conversation, their body language tells the story. Gerard I. Nierenberg and Henry H. Calero videotaped more than 2,000 negotiations for a book they wrote on reading body language, and not a single one ended in an agreement when one of the parties had their legs crossed while negotiating. Psychologically, crossed legs or arms signal that a person is mentally, emotionally, and physically blocked off from what’s in front of them. It’s not intentional, which is why it’s so revealing.

These tricks for reading body language can make it very easy to tell how those around you are feeling, and if what they’re saying to you is truthful or not. Try these out today and you might just learn something interesting about your co-workers, friends, and/or family members.

Advice To Investors: It Pays To Invest In Female Led Companies

In recent years, some financial services companies have been adding investment products that place bets on female-led firms, investing in companies that have either women as chief executives or diverse boards of directors. New research from Scandinavia’s largest bank shows why the wager might be a good one.

Companies with a woman in the CEO or chairman role have performed far better than a major global index over the past eight years, according to an analysis by the bank Nordea of nearly 11,000 companies globally.

Naess’ study adds to a growing body of research aimed at examining whether gender diversity has an effect on corporate performance. Some studies show a link: Credit Suisse, for example, has found that having a woman on the board was associated with better performance and that having more female top managers was associated with higher returns on equity, valuations and dividend payouts, as well as better stock performance.

Other studies, meanwhile, have shown less clear links, with one study showing the stock price of Norwegian companies dropped after adding female directors to meet a mandate that 40% of the country’s corporate boards be female — the drop was attributed in part to less-experienced directors.

Naess’ analysis examined publicly traded companies that had at least $2 million in stock trading each year from both developed and emerging markets. He looked at nearly 400 companies over the period in which women held one of the two roles, examining how the performance of the company fared in the following year if a woman was CEO at the end of the year prior.

As the co-portfolio manager for a $40-billion fund that invests in “quality” companies with more stable earnings and less volatile stocks, Naess suggested a few possible explanations for the findings. One is that for whatever reason, women may tend to lead more of these less-volatile companies. According to his numbers, about 4% of the companies had a female leader in the broader market, compared with 9% of companies on an index that tracks these more stable firms.

Another possibility, he said, is that analysts tended to have slightly lower earnings growth expectations for the companies in his data set with a woman at the helm — at an average of 7.4%, versus 9.7% for the broader market. Again, while the reason for that is unclear, analysts overshoot expectations frequently, he said. Because the actual average earnings growth is only about 5% a year, the women’s performance could be seen as less disappointing, which could lead to stronger stock performance.

In a follow-up email, Naess said the explanation also could simply be that the women were better managers. “The simple interpretation of my calculations is to buy the companies with a female CEO/chair,” he wrote. “If you invested consistently in only companies with a female CEO/chair, then you would have done better than the market.”

The Shepherd Of All Times, Arjan Singh Metamorphosizes Into A Legend

$

Those who have read Frederick Forsyth, would sure have understood by now. The Vampire pilot, going home on a Christmas Eve 1957, whose aircraft suffers a complete electrical failure en route. Lost in fog and low on fuel, he is met and guided (shepherded) to a disused RAF dispersal field by the angel pilot of another fighter-bomber of World War II vintage, who apparently has been sent up to guide him in.

The Vampire pilot, some time after he lands at the airfield learns that his saviour was Johnny Kavanagh, a wartime RAF pilot who had been stationed at Minton (fictional) and who used to guide crippled bombers home. To his utmost bewilderment and surprise, the Vampire pilot also learns that Kavanagh disappeared over the North Sea in his Mosquito on his last mission, on Christmas Eve 1943, exactly fourteen years before this rescue.

Arjan Singh is indeed the proverbial Shepherd from Frederick’s thriller, leading and guiding the Indian Air Force during the most crucial period in history. Marshal of the Indian Air Force Arjan Singh, DFC was entrusted with the responsibility of leading the Indian Air Force just before the 1965 war, when he was only 44 years old, a responsibility he carried with grace and elan.

Today evening at 1947 hours, The Marshal of the Indian Air Force Arjan Singh breathed his last at the Army Hospital (R&R), New Delhi. He was 98. He was admitted to the hospital today morning following a cardiac arrest. He was being treated at the Cardiothoracic and Vascular Sciences Centre of the hospital.

Arjan Singh was born on 15 April 1919, in Lyalpur of undivided Punjab. He completed his education from Montgomery. In 1938 when he got selected for the Empire Pilot training course at RAF Cranwell, he was still in college and was only 19 years old.

His first posting on being commissioned involved flying Westland Wapiti biplanes in the North Western Frontier Province as a member of the No.1 IAF Squadron. Arjan Singh flew against the tribal forces before he was transferred for a brief stint with the newly formed No.2 IAF Squadron. Later he moved back to No.1 Sqn as a Flying Officer, when the Squadron was re-equipped with the Hawker Hurricane.

Promoted to the rank of Squadron Leader in 1944, Arjan Singh  also flew Close Support missions during the crucial Imphal Campaign and later assisted the advance of the allied forces to Rangoon, Burma. For his role in successfully leading the squadron during combat, Arjan Singh received the Distinguished Flying Cross in 1944. He was given command of the IAF Display flight which flew Hawker Hurricanes after the war that toured India giving demonstrations. On 15 August 1947, he was given the unique honour of leading the fly-past of more than a hundred IAF aircraft over the Red Fort in Delhi.

Immediately after independence, he took over the command of Air Force Station, Ambala, in the rank of Group Captain. In 1949, after promotion to the rank of Air Commodore, Arjan Singh took over as the Air Officer Commanding of Operational Command, which later came to be known as the Western Air Command. Arjan Singh had the distinction of having the longest tenure as the AOC of Operational Command, from 1949-1952 and again from 1957-1961. Promoted to Air Vice Marshal, he was the AOC-in-C of Operational Command. Towards the end of the 1962 war, he was appointed as the Deputy Chief of Air Staff and became the Vice Chief of Air Staff by 1963.

On 01 August 1964, Arjan Singh took over as the Chief of Air Staff (CAS) in the rank of Air Marshal. Arjan Singh was the first Air Chief who kept his flying category till his CAS rank. Having flown over 60 different types of aircraft from Pre-Second World War era biplanes to the more contemporary Gnats & Vampires, he had also flown in transports like the Super Constellation.

A testing time came in September 1965   when Pakistan launched Operation Grand Slam, in which an armoured thrust targeted the vital town of Akhnur, he was summoned into the Defence Minister’s office with a request for air support. When asked how quickly the IAF will be ready for operations,he replied with his characteristic nonchalance,”…in an hour”. And true to his word, the Air Force struck the Pakistani offensive in an hour. He led the IAF through the war showing unparalleled leadership.

Arjan Singh was awarded the Padma Vibhushan for his leadership during the 1965 War and subsequently the rank of the CAS was upgraded to that of Air Chief Marshal. Arjan Singh became the first Air Chief Marshal of the Indian Air Force. He retired in July 1969, thereupon accepting ambassadorship to Switzerland. He remained a flyer till the end of his tenure in the IAF, visiting forward squadrons & units and flying with them. Arjan Singh was and remains a source of inspiration to generations of Indians.

Indian Aviation Booms – Nation becomes 3rd Largest Aviation Market In Domestic Traffic

In recognition of his services, the Government of India conferred the rank of the Marshal of the Air Force onto Arjan Singh in January 2002 making him the first and the only ‘Five Star’ rank officer of the Indian Air Force. In 2016 Air Force Station, Panagarh was renamed as Air Force Station Arjan Singh.

Arjan Singh’s demise enables him to metamorphise into a legend that India will proudly remember in all times to come.

From Bollywood to Tollywood! Hollywood Inspired Nicknames Sum Up Global Film Industry

The film industry or motion picture industry comprises of the technological and commercial institutions of filmmaking taken together i.e. film production companies, film studios, cinematography, animation, film production, screenwriting, pre-production, post production, film festivals, distribution; and actors, film directors and other film crew personnel.

Hollywood is the oldest film industry of the world and the largest in terms of box office gross and number of screens. In terms of viewership however, Bollywood is the most watched with 3.2 billion viewers mainly in Asia, as compared to Hollywood which has 2.6 billion viewers.

The world has seen the emergence of indigenous film industries with Hollywood-inspired nicknames, most starting with the first letter(s) of the location and ending in the letters “-ollywood” or “-wood”. India has the largest share of names after Hollywood to represent the local movie industries. Lets recall the names of the film industries from across the world.

Brief About Hollywood:  Hollywood is a district in Los Angeles, California, United States (yes, it’s not a movie industry in itself, as believed popularly). The place situated west-northwest of downtown Los Angeles, got it’s cultural identity as the center of movie studios and movie stars when movie making activities increased in the early 20th century.

India:

  • Bollywood – is the informal name given to the Bombay-based Hindi language film industry located mostly in Mumbai, Maharashtra, India. After Hollywood, Indian movie industry is considered to the biggest in the world. Name Bollywood is an amalgamation of Bombay and Hollywood.
  • Kollywood may refer to the Tamil language film industry in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu. Kollywood is a portmanteau of the words Kodambakkam, an area of Chennai, where Tamil language feature films are produced, and Hollywood. Kollywood West refers to Tamil movies produced in western countries and the term Kollywood South refer to Tamil movies made in Singapore, Sri Lanka and India.
  • Ollywood is the olloquial name given to Odiya language film Industry in the state of Orissa, India.
  • Tollywood – A name most poached upon by Bengalis on one hand and the Telugu speaking Andhrites on the other hand. It is originally said to be coined for Bengali Film industry after Tollygunge in West Bengal drawing inspiration from Hollywood dating back to 1932 by Wilford E. Deming an American Cinematographer. However the Telugu film industry in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana also vie for it and often refer to their film industry as Tollywood
  • Chhollywood is the colloquial name given to the Chhattisgarhi language movie industry in Chhattisgarh, India.
  • Jollywood is the colloquial name given to the Assamese language movie industry based on Jyoti Chitraban, Guwahati, Assam.

However since it is an already well established name to represent something else, some other appropriate name needs to be coined and earmarked for Kathmandu movie industry. A name Nollywood (for Nepal + Hollywood) is also taken, so is Pollywood (Pokhara +Hollywood). Preet Didbal has been elected as the mayor of Yuba city in California, becoming the first Sikh woman to hold the position in the United States.

Dibal was appointed by the California city council and will be sworn in on December 5, KCRA-TV, an NBC-affiliated television station, reported.

There are other Sikh mayors across the country — Ravi Bhalla was elected earlier this month as mayor in Hoboken, New Jersey.

However, Didbal is the first Sikh woman to be elected as mayor in the country, the report said.

Didbal was elected to Yuba City Council in 2014 and is currently vice mayor. She is the first in her family to graduate from college.

“Seeing someone that looks like you, that comes from the same faith as you, to be elected in a public office in this country is inspiring and exciting. And it’s definitely moving,” Jaydeep Singh with the Sikh Coalition said.

“When Ravi Bhalla was elected in New Jersey, that was the first time I saw someone who looked like me, who was in a public office in the United States of America,” Singh said.

The Sutter-Yuba region is home to one of the largest Sikh communities in the country.

On November 8, Bhalla became the first ever Sikh mayor of New Jersey’s Hoboken city after a stiff competition that turned ugly when he was labelled a terrorist in slanderous flyers.

The Sikh Coalition estimates around 500,000 people who follow the Sikh faith live in the United States.

India’s First ISO 9001:2015 Certified Astrologer and Gemologist Dr Sohini Sastri hails from a family of noble and famous personalities like Swami Dharmamegharanya Aranya on the paternal side  and Swami Hariharananda Aranya from maternal side. Born in Kolkata, West Bengal, Sohini graduated in Arts and went on to finish her Masters and PhD in political science. She has been further honored with the coveted Doctorate in Astrology.

Instead of pursuing her traditional family professions of Doctors and Lawyers, Sohini decided to do something different. Her passion led her to choose the profession of occult sciences as she happened to be blessed with the gift of clairvoyance, intuitions and mystical experiences since childhood.

Sohini Sastri has been recognized as an esteemed member of Asian Astrologers Congress, Astrological Research Project and Astro Medical Research Center. Her significant works have been published in various magazines and have been highly appreciated by the audience.

In this exclusive interview, Dr Sohini Sastri reveals her thoughts on everything from romantic relationships to the turbulence plaguing the society, all the while clearly demonstrating her solid grasp of the ancient art of astrology.

Thank you so much Mam, for taking the time off to respond to our questions for the benefit all of us and the society at large. We begin with some basic but inquisitive questions.

N4M Media: What got you into Astrology and who influenced you to become an astrologer?

Sohini Sastri: From my childhood I was  very much spiritual minded and devotee of god and very much interested to know and  study about occult science and  I always got inspiration from my Mother who belonged to the family of great Swami Dharmamegharanya Aranya and Swami Hariharananda Aranya. I even drew lots of  inspiration from my uncle, former Justice of Supreme Court late Aloke Chandra Gupta.

N4M Media: What are the benefits of getting a Vedic astrology reading done?

Sohini Sastri: Not one or two but many. Some of them are:

  • Identifying your main gifts or talents
  • Choosing what to study
  • Which career to follow
  • Help with your love life, compatibility guidance
  • Difficulties with conception
  • Health issues
  • Remedies to protect against accidents and negative forces
  • Discovering what system of healing can be most beneficial
  • Choosing the business that’s right for you
  • Developing your business

N4M Team: For the benefit of our viewers, Can you please tell us about the basic difference between a KP Astrologer and a Vedic Astrologer?

Sohini Sastri:

  • Distribution of Cuspsis  done as per Placidus System in KP while Vedic follows Sripat  Paddhati.
  • Start of the Cuspis taken as Start point in KP and it is taken as Mid point in Vedic.
  • Aspects are taken  degree wise  and they are applicable as per orb of individual planet in KP. Vedic astrology follows cusp to cusp Aspects.
  • Duration of Yearof 365.25 days but vedic take it as 360 for easy calculations.
  • Less rulesbut vedic have lots of rules and books to get accurate prediction.
  • Logicaland vedic has lost the accuracy of predictions because of missed data.
  • Ayananshaplays a major role in  accuracy KP  has its own  and single ayanansha but vedic has lots of ayanansha provided by so many astrologers.  Each Ayanansha gives the  different values to  Planets and Cusps.
  • Understandability One can learn  KP in very  few months but one can not learn full vedic astrology in his life.
  • Accuracy Vedic can not pin point the time of frutification but KP can tell the exact time of frutification of the event.
  • House of Father KP treat  9thCusp  as the House of Father and 10th Cusp for social status/carrier but Vedic take 10th Cusp for Father/social status/carrier.
  • Basics KP follows the rules given by sage Parashar for Vimshottari Dasha/Moon. KP has divided  each planet and cusp  Sign (Dasha)  into Bhukti,  Bhukti  into Antar and  Antar into  Pratyantar in the  same  ratio  as done by sage Parashar in Vimshottari  Dasha. It gives the more accuracy but vedic does not follows so.
  • Navamansha Vedic follows  Navamansha  of Moon  Sign only but KP follows  navamansha of Nakshatra of each  Planet and Cusp.
  • Fortuna KP introduced a new fast  moving point which can  differentiate between two early births as twins, it is known as Fortuna.
  • Mercury Combustion KP says that Mercury never Combust(अस्त)from Sun.

N4M Team: Mam, we came to know that you are one of the very few who have the unique distinction of specializing in both i.e. as a KP astrologer as well as Vedic Astrologer k. What are the additional benefits for people who consult you, due to this dual specialization of yours?

Sohini Sastri: They will get more accurate calculation and  analysis of their birth chart because KP starts  where traditional ends .

N4M Team: Which aspects of someone’s life can you NOT predict?

Sohini Sastri:  I always give a warning of someone for  their upcoming events but  never do any predictions which make them more depressed because my work is to give peace and  relieve in mind of my client and  inspire them with all positive  aspect of  life rather point  out  only negative things .

N4M Team: Just in case if someone finds out about something in their chart that they don’t want to occur, is there some way the person can change it, or is it that whatever stands in the chart is going to happen inevitably?

Sohini Sastri: You have  face your  fate but we can support them by giving remedy and also alert them prior indication so that people  can minimize the  thing .

N4M Team: Ok let me ask you that in case you see something bad or perilious in someone’s future…an accident, a life threatening disease, a cheating spouse etc then do you reveal it to the person?

Sohini Sastri: Obviously and  this  is our  basic  work  to cautious them and advice to  initiate to take  preventive measures .

N4M Team: To what extent is a warning from you, such as ‘be extra cautious while going on your official tour’ or ‘be careful while driving,’ able to help someone avoid a situation that is bound to happen as per their chart? Can being aware or conscious of impending dangers actually benefit someone by avoiding a possible accident / incident / injury?

Sohini Sastri: People  come  to discuss for a specific event of life but if anybody wants to take advice  regarding  this them I obviously advice him or her and also prescribe remedies and precautions to protect them  and I am proud to say that people are very much benefitted from my advice and remedy  for this particular event of life and  beside everything I always try to educate every client astrologically about  what their charts say and try to involve them always in discussion about the  planets and  stars so that they can easily avoid any upcoming hazards in life and  if a client follow this  perfectly or take some remedy to prevent them he or she can get relieve .

N4M Team: Though a bit personal Mam, but how often do you look into your own chart for guidance in your life?

Sohini Sastri: This  is very interesting  point s for  a astrologer and this is really pathetic and  as well as beneficial   to someone who can read his or her own chart perfectly and  it is like  a doctor who treat himself or herself  and  it is really beneficial if we follow everything positively .

N4M Team: Is everything that is predetermined  and can be seen in ones chart, the same as fate or destiny?

Sohini Sastri: Destiny

N4M Team:  What advice do you have to those who do not believe in a astrologer’s ability to see the past and/or predict future?

Sohini Sastri: I always try to respect other’s opinion and  thought and if anyone don’t want to believe effectiveness of astrology then we cant  force him or her but I believe that in future they must change  their views to protect their live and future of their children and it is very true that  realization comes from urgency ….

From the beginning of the advent of Islam, muslim women have played a very important and discerning role in the society. However with deliberate media and perception campaigns run 24×7 to tarnish the image of Muslim women, more so in the past few decades, many ills have started getting tagged to the Muslim women across the world. Cropping up have been the many xenophobic assumptions – that Muslim women are oppressed, need to be saved, forced to wear headscarves or hijabs out of fear and so on. Such labels though remain far from reality.

Contrary to played up media image of a Muslim women as a demure un-empowered female, all hiding behind her burqa and sheltered by her men folk, today’s Muslim women are actively engaged in leadership and business roles across the society.

However most of these are far from reality. The phenomenal progress being made by the Muslim women in the world is amazing.  Muslim women at the forefront are debunking these orientalist myths while at the same time constantly working to combat the ills within the community.

To cite a few examples, ruling since decades is the Prime Minister of Bangladesh Ms Sheikh Hasina Wazed. Also the Prime Minister of Mali Ms Cissé Mariam Kaïdama Sidibé is a charismatic Muslim women. Similarly, President of Kosovo, Atife Jahjaga, is the world’s youngest women president, while being her country’s first female Muslim president and the list goes on. So whether it be sports, entertainment, fashion, business or politics, Muslim women continue to climb the ladder and challenge the views, that belittle them otherwise.

As a tribute to the endeavors of the Muslim women of the world, N4M media surveys comes up with a list of the world’s Top Muslim women everyone should know about.

Bollywood And The Muslim Stereotypes

$

Muslim representation in Bollywood has come a long way .The early Bollywood had movies made on Muslim rulers, Nawabs and courtesans, depicting the royal magnificance. Mughal e Azam, one of the epic Bollywood movie had captured the royal grandeur of Mughal court which even to this date is unmatched.

While chaudvin ka Chand dealt with the upper middle class of Muslim society, Pakeezah had a love story of a courtesan with a Nawab, Umrao jaan with it’s soulful music portrayed the emotions and struggles of a courtesan. These movies were not only huge hits but are considered as classicals which touched the hearts of all it’s viewers.

Then came the era of Muslim socials, which again mostly had characters from the affluent Nawabi families or the upper middle class. Mere Mehboob, Bahu Begum, Mehboob ki Mehendi and Mere Huzoor has typical characters dressed in shervanis and ghararas .The remarkable movies of that had a different perspective were shatranj ke khiladi, Garam Hawa and Bazaar, each of a different genre but nevertheless exemplary. Garam Hawa deals with the struggles of a Muslim family in the post partition era.

After a stage the depiction of Muslim was considerably changed and also diminished. Raheem Chacha or the Imaam saheb, from Sholay is well etched in the minds of viewers. Played by AK Hangal the blind Imaam Saheb, loved by the villagers shows exemplary patience when his only son is killed by dacoits, a sacrifice for the safety of the village. The movie is famous for catchy dialogues of it various characters, Raheem Chacha’s simple “Itna sannata kyun hain?” is still remembered.

The gradual fading of Muslim characters was noticed, except for few supporting characters in few movies like Sher Khan in Zanjeer played by Pran, Qurbani had Amjad Khan playing the cop, Rishi Kapoor as Akbar in Amar Akbar Anthony, Amitab Bachan in Coolie and Mazhar Khan singing “Naam Abdul hai mera” in Shaan are few examples. Though Bollywood had many Muslims actors & directors but gradual fading away of the Muslim characters is evident. Few movies had some characters thrown in here and there but no more were important Muslim characters seen in Bollywood.

Then came The Khan era, where the three Khans ruled Bollywood but they themselves didn’t portray many Muslim characters for a long time. Salman Khan‘s Hum Aapke hain kaun had the friendly Muslim doctor couple, the characters took stereotyping to a different level with paan chewing, shayari and gaudy dresses but to be fair everything in that movie was over hyped and over the top. Aamir Khan’s Sarfarosh had the honest cop Salim, who has to prove his patriotism and honesty had dialogues like

“Phir Kabhi Kisi Salim Se Mat Kehna … Yeh Mulk Uska Ghar Nahin…”

Shahrukh Khan took the risk and did two movies where in played the Muslim Hero, My name is Khan and Chak De!India, two very powerful characters that tried to portray the Muslim character as real as possible. Fiza by Khalid Mohammad had Karishma Kapoor playing the feisty Fiza searching for her brother lost during the riots.

Movies like Zubeida Iqbal and Three Idiots had interesting characters but most movies after the Mumbai riots had Muslim characters as villains, even without any name they were quite evident with surma clad eyes and wearing topis, the quintessential villain. The normal office going or working Muslim just vanished from the scene, either he was a villain or a stereotyped caricature.

Movies like Dear zindagi and Aye dil hain Mushkil did try to create some interesting characters but the middle class or even the hard working poor Muslim just didn’t fit into the Bollywood movies.

Stereotyped as villains or topi wearing Miya bhais no film maker even remotely address real issues faced by today’s Muslims. With a surge in identity politics and effort to attribute the past to present Muslim generation, the Muslim identity in general is muddled and Bollywood which ones saw some its best epics depicting the richness of Muslim culture seems to have distanced it self from the present Muslims. What better than movies to portray the fears, apprehensions and hopes of the Muslims but alas Bollywood doesn’t seem to be very keen.

What Made An Act Of Duty By a Cop, To Be Hailed And Celebrated?

$

0

The video of a brave policeman Gagandeep Singh saving a youth from a frenzied crowd in Uttarakhand has gone viral earning him accolades and the cop is hailed as a ‘Hero’ for his act .

The incident is seen as a ray of hope in such times when faith based attacks by the erstwhile fringe elements is becoming a norm. The Muslim youth in this case was attacked when he was visiting his Hindu girlfriend and if not for the brave cop he would have been badly beaten and in all likelihood, lynched by the mob.

The police officer Gagandeep Singh stood his ground and saved the man even after the mob started yelling, “Police Prashasan Murdabad”. Not the first time where Muslims have been targeted by Hindutva mobs on the pretext of possessing beef or love jihad, beaten mercilessly and at least three of them have been killed publicly.

Akhlaq, Junaid and Afrazul were all killed mercilessly while hordes of people stood watching and in some cases even cheering the killings. In almost all such cases, families of the victims were further targeted and harassed in an effort to send a militant message and create panic among the minorities.

Allegedly in most cases, parts of the media played partisan, twisted the plot, blamed the victims and brazenly indulged in whataboutery resulting in justifying the mob attacks in some way or the other instead of outright and unequivocal condemnations. In such a  scenario, a brave cop standing upto the goons and protecting the Muslim youth is no doubt commendable, but also to some extent worrying.

Worrying because, an act in normal course of duty by a police officer is suddenly seen here as an exceptional act of bravery. This forces us to realize the disturbing times we are living in currently, the irony of the situation being more than baffling.

In a tweet by a well know twitterati Aarti @aartic02, she shares the common public sentiment of the day, saying:

The worst came by when the cop was trolled and attacked for saving a life, for doing his duty. The unending whataboutery has successfully managed to hijack any issue, turn it into mockery of societal ethics, be it the mob lynchings or rape of an eight year old child. Incidents that should have evoked strong criticism have often ended up being turned into the classical Us vs Them jingoism, undermining the very nature of the gruesome acts.

Akhlaq was allegedly killed only on the suspicion of possessing beef (which later was found to be false), Afrazul on the pretext of love jihad which again, it is claimed, turned out to be a lie and Junaid as per his brother who accompanied him, was killed merely for being a Muslim. All these incidents occurred in broad day light in front of a crowd which stood watching the killings and not one tried to intervene and stop. Sixteen year old Junaid was killed in a train allegedly because of his faith and not one person in the entire train came forward to stop the goons.

This gives a fairly clear insight as to why an act of duty by the policeman is hailed and celebrated. He is seen as a saviour and a glimmer of hope in an environment of hatred, often fed by the frequent vitroils of many a public figures and their pernicious influences, all tailored for extracting political mileage. Unfortunately the hate mechanisms are so strong that we need many a Gagandeep Singhs to stand up for the rights of the oppressed, to do their duty without any fear and most importantly to take a stand in front of the hate mongers, without any fear.

If one Gagandeep Singh can stand up to the goons and stop them, a proactive crowd of conscientious people, taking a stand and speaking up for what is right and just in the society, would go a long way to reassure those on the receiving end of such bigotry.

Divided by hate and political ideologies, many are oblivious to the fear a section of our society is living in. The daily demeaning of the minorities by a major section of the media has only added to the fear psychosis and their getting targeted brazenly. To top it all, any such violation of rights and harassment is easily being justified one way or the other. Thus devoid of any logic, a sense of frenzy gets created by the media. Social media also adds fuel to the fire as fake news and pics get widely shared through applications like WhatsApp and Messengers.

Thus in the prevalent times even routine acts of duty are much appreciated and duly hailed. To encourage people to stand up and shun violence, Gagandeep certainly needs to be acknowledged and celebrated until such time, such acts become the norm and do not remain only as an exception.

In the present circumstances what we badly need is not just one but many more brave Gagandeeps to fight this growing menace of communal forces out to destroy the secular fabric of India.

People like Gagandeep who exuberate courage of conviction, can take a stand and thus act as inspiration for others to follow are the real jewels of the society. More power to the hero, Gagandeep.

“Courage is contagious. When a brave man takes a stand, the spine of others is often stiffened “

Family Doctors Are Passe – Family Nutritionists Are In | By Shubi Husain

In the recent years, transition from family doctors to family nutritionists has become more and more apparent. That is not to say that family doctors are losing their relevance in the society. What’s happening is that people are increasingly becoming aware of the value of preventive measures over curative approaches to diseases. Your family dietician helps you achieve the former, while a family doctor comes in after the disease has set in.

People are starting to see how prescribed nutrition can help them ward off a myriad of illnesses and save them a lot of pain and medical bills. In this article, my endeavor is to bring out some of the benefits you get by having a nutrition consultant vis-à-vis a family doctor.

Prevention of Genetic Diseases

If you come from a family where diabetes, heart disease, sickle-cell anemia or other genetic disorders are trending, then it’s normal to feel concerned that you too might suffer the condition. An experienced family nutritionist can help you reduce the risk of developing these chronic conditions by recommending meals that help ward off these illnesses.

But even if you or a loved one already have one of these conditions, a qualified dietitian can help you know which diets are tailored to improve your sugar levels or lower cholesterol levels. In the long run, a nutritionist can help you reduce or even eliminate your dependency on medications.

Achieving a Healthy Weight

You already know that your weight has a huge impact on your health and your lifestyle that ultimately influences your performance at work. If you’ve been looking to lose weight, then your family doctor will not help much. Turning to nutrition consultancy is your best bet.

Best Weight Loss Clinics in Delhi

An accomplished dietician can help recommend a diet that helps you take in fewer calories than the one you use on a daily basis, making it easier for you to achieve the ideal weight.

Meeting Your Fitness Goals

Whether you aim to perform better in sports or simply want to enjoy skiing during the vacations, your body needs to be fit enough for these activities. An experienced family nutritionist can help you come up with a meal plan that’s tailored to get your body fit more quickly and keep it that way for a long time. While a family doctor may recommend that you need to get fit, they simply don’t have the time, or the training, to help you achieve that.

Revitalization for Your Aging Body

If you are starting to feel the signs of aging such as sluggishness and your recent lab results are continually poor, then it may be time to seek the assistance of a family nutritionist.

The dietician can get you started on a whole-food and plant-based diet to address any chronic inflammation you may have and boost your cardiovascular functioning as well as hormonal balance. Eating fresh fruits and vegetables, coupled with nuts, seeds, legumes, fatty fish, and lean proteins can help enhance your overall health and keep auto-immunes diseases at bay. In the end, your body feels stronger and younger.

Eliminating Harmful Foods

While your diet plays a significant role in making you feel healthy, what you consume may also adversely affect you. In fact, many digestive problems and skin ailments are caused by allergies and food sensitivities. Instead of doing guesswork as to what exactly might be affecting you, you can consult a family nutritionist.

An experienced dietician can help take you through the process of eliminating certain foods and bringing others back so you zero-in on what might be the cause of your health woes. The nutritionist may even accompany you to the grocery store to assist you in pinpointing the harmful foods and offer suggestions on what alternatives you can begin to use.

Constant Emotional Support

You may not have realized it yet, but a lot of emotions surround food. That’s because food is at the center of numerous aspects of your life, from happy stuff to angry experiences. As you embark on changing your lifestyle and food, you’ll experience some powerful feelings, and it’s possible to feel overwhelmed. Your emotions can negatively affect your appetite.

Your family nutritionist is there to offer the support you need to keep going. They constantly remind you of how far you have come and spur you to move ahead. This can have a powerful impact on your morale.

Ultimately, your food habits have a strong bearing on your well being, so you need to be careful what you consume. It’s the reason that many people are turning to family nutritionists to keep their bodies healthy and prevent that dreaded visit to the family doctor.

Leadership Qualities That Keep Rahul Gandhi Going, With A Smile

$

He is one of the most trolled men on the planet. His intelligence has been incessantly lampooned. Barbs and insults are constantly hurled at his family. His ability to lead men has always been questioned.

And, yet, Congress president Rahul Gandhi soldiers on. With a smile.

While manouevring his way through the murky labyrinth that politics is, he has shrugged off many insults and maintained his poise.

Leading a political party is a tall order, but Rahul has now proved he possesses the leadership qualities that can give shape to a new, stronger Congress.

Here are 10 reasons why the Congress president is perfect CEO material:

1. The mentor: Rahul Gandhi has been a remarkable guide and a guru to the Congress rank and file, many of whom had become despondent after the drubbing the party received in the 2014 polls. All that is now history. Rahul has taken command of a party that was down and out and brought it right back into the reckoning by leading it from the front.

2. The motivator: The Congress president’s ability to catalyse his party into action and re-energise his team has already begun to pay rich dividends. He seems to have breathed new life into the Congress workers and supporters who have shed their misery and are now enthused to take on the BJP, which has gone on the defensive not knowing how to tackle Rahul’s persistent attacks.

3. The communicator: Possessed of strong communication skills, Rahul Gandhi has managed to get his thoughts and ideas to not just Congress supporters but also to the nation. His forceful speeches and statements have already begun to dent the BJP’s carefully crafted image of a pro-poor, non-corrupt and nationalist party. As the country gets closer to the 2019 elections, Rahul’s attack on the ruling party will only become stronger.

4. The avid student: The 2014 electoral defeat that the Congress experienced was enough to demoralize anyone. However, Raul has shown the ability to learn from the past mistakes, accept those mistakes and course-correct.

5. The relationship builder: He’s good at building relationships and breaking down silos. The Congress, under his leadership, has struck many political alliances, thus ensuring that the opposition to the BJP becomes stronger.

6. The tough decision-maker: Rahul has shown a ruthlessness that many in his own party thought him incapable of. He has managed to infuse energy and induct youngsters into higher positions into the party, weeding out the old guard.

7. The visionary: When the Congress was down and out after 2014 elections, the nation thought it would indeed become ‘Congress mukt’ soon. However, the naysayers hadn’t considered the quiet confidence and strength of Rahul Gandhi. When others could barely see any chance of the Congress growing into a formidable challenger to the Bharatiya Janata Party, Rahul could visualize the future for his party. He realizes there are many challenges before him, but the roadmap he has laid out for the Congress shows he has made party workers aware of the strategy that will help them achieve audacious goals.

8. The calculated risk-taker: The Gandhi scion is fully cognizant of the fact that when an opportunity comes knocking by, one shouldn’t complain about the noise but embrace it with open arms. He has always been ready for those unpredicted breaks that present themselves when one takes bold steps. As in business, so in politics: Rahul has begun to take calculated risks now and these measures seemed to have opened up new avenues for him and the Congress to explore and exploit. Rahul’s risk-taking ability also shows his growing confidence and that he has shed his fear of failure.

9. The ‘out of the box’ thinker: In the fast-changing world of political affairs, it is important to come up with newer ways and ideas to beat your opponents, keep your team enthused and achieve your goals. Rahul has realized that often tried-and-tested tactics don’t work and he has thus come up with novel strategies that have rattled his opponents. These out of the box ideas have helped him adapt to new leadership style and revive the Congress.

10. The creator of hope: After being reduced to a mere 44 seats in the Lok Sabha after the 2015 general elections, many a political analyst and television anchor had written off the party and, especially, it’s leader. However, after a brief period of reticence, Rahul has bounced back with a bang. He’s now the ray of hope the Congress looks up to to derail the juggernaut that the Bharatiya Janata Party is. Indeed, in him the Congress and its millions of supporters see political salvation.

Nancy Gupta, CEO, Glamorstreet

Nature or Nurture, the differing views on “Entrepreneurs are born” or Entrepreneurs are made” have been a point of contention for ages. Many studies and papers have been written and debated for a distinct outcome but to no avail.

However in a complex society and the present world order, it will be prudent to say that while there are so many different entrepreneurial ideas, there is no one route to entrepreneurship. While there are some who are born with a desire to create ventures and have inherent qualities that make them successful entrepreneurs, there are others who learn and acquire them along the way, some the hard way.

Meet Nancy Gupta and you realise the potential and the entrepreneurial spirit that seems to be burning as a desire to make it big. Its thus no easy task, many can’t even fathom that at a very young age, Nancy tailored a team of hers and dared to launch a company of her own.

Great fashion needn’t cost the earth.”We believe fashion should be individual, accessible and most of all affordable to the public at large.” says Nancy.
